I wish Black parents would sit their children down and watch the videos of the civil rights movement, and talk about it. They need to know about what happened to Emmett Till, they need to know Rosa Parks story and so on. They need to understand that no too long ago, we couldn't look White people in the eye, or even walk down the same side of the street with them.
My grandmother sat us down when we were children and told us the story of how her grandfather was MURDERED and her grandmother was SHOT because a White man tried to run over one of her aunts with his horse and she called him a son-of-a-bitch.
Black history should be taught in ALL schools, because it is not just OUR history, it is AMERICAN history.
If our children really knew their history, I believe a lot of them would be proud of the progress Black people have made in America and and stive to achieve more.
You just have to give props to MLK and all the people of that time. To be so determined to go out and defy the rules set by white America just to enable future generations to be able to live more comfortably is commendable. THey have my respect just for going on those long marches in church shoes!! I know that was painful. They didn't have any Freedom Rider New Balances or anything!!! WOW!! That in itself is worth all the respect in the world.
